Уо́лт Уи́тмен — американский поэт и публицист. Новатор свободного стиха. К концу жизни Уитмен обрёл славу первого общенационального поэта США. Занимал ряд должностей на государственной службе, в том числе в департаменте генерального прокурора. Важное место в поэзии Уитмена занимает индустриальная тема: оды фабричным трубам, домнам, станкам, паровозам делают его предтечей так называемой урбанистической поэзии. На русский язык Уитмена переводили К. Д. Бальмонт, И. А. Кашкин, К. И. Чуковский.
