Уо́лт Уи́тмен — американский поэт и публицист. Новатор свободного стиха. К кон­цу жиз­ни Уитмен об­рёл сла­ву пер­во­го об­ще­на­цио­наль­но­го по­эта США. За­ни­мал ряд долж­но­стей на государственной служ­бе, в том числе в де­пар­та­мен­те ге­не­раль­но­го про­ку­ро­ра. Важное место в поэзии Уитмена занимает индустриальная тема: оды фабричным трубам, домнам, станкам, паровозам делают его предтечей так называемой урбанистической поэзии. На русский язык Уитмена пе­ре­во­ди­ли К. Д. Баль­монт, И. А. Каш­кин, К. И. Чу­ков­ский.
