Первоначально попробовав себя в сфере строительства, в 1988 году он присоединился к местной группе Inspiral Carpets в качестве техника. Во время турне с Inspiral Carpets он узнал, что его брат Лиам основал собственную группу под названием The Rain, которую затем переименовал в Oasis.
