Джон Си́дней Макке́йн III — американский политический и государственный деятель, сенатор США от штата Аризона , кандидат в президенты США от республиканцев на выборах 2008 года. Дед и отец Маккейна были адмиралами Военно-морских сил США. Джон Маккейн пошёл по их стопам и в 1958 году окончил Военно-морскую академию США, став лётчиком палубной авиации. Ветеран Вьетнамской войны. Был сбит советской ракетой над Ханоем в 1967 году, пробыл во вьетнамском плену пять с половиной лет и был выпущен в 1973 году по условиям Парижского соглашения. В 1981 году Маккейн ушёл в отставку с военной службы, а в 1982 году был избран в Палату представителей Конгресса США от Республиканской партии.
